Selection Principles
  1. Reverse Breakdown Voltage (VBR) Selection: The VBR of the transient voltage suppressor diode (TVS) should be 10%-20% higher than the normal working voltage of the circuit to ensure that the TVS does not conduct under normal operating conditions. For example, if the circuit's normal working voltage is 12V, the VBR of the TVS can be selected as 13.2V to 14.4V.

  1. Peak Pulse Power (PPM) Rating: Calculate the maximum transient energy that the circuit may encounter, and ensure that the PPM of the TVS is greater than this value. The PPM is related to the duration and amplitude of the transient pulse. Refer to the TVS datasheet for the relationship between PPM and pulse width to make the correct selection. transient voltage suppressor diode

  1. Response Time Consideration: TVS diodes have a very fast response time, usually in the order of nanoseconds. For circuits with strict requirements on transient response, ensure that the TVS's response time meets the circuit's needs to effectively suppress transient voltage spikes.
