Renesas tunable antenna varactor diodes for One-Seg broadcasting applications 1

Renesas Technology Corp. recently announced the launch of two tunable varactor diodes (varicap diodes) for portable and mobile terminals with digital terrestrial broadcasting capabilities: the RKV653KP features the industry's smallest size of 0.6mm×0.3mm, while the RKV653KL adopts an extended packaging form. Samples will begin shipping from Japan on August 3, 2006.

A tunable antenna is an antenna capable of adjusting its resonant frequency to effectively receive various frequency bands. This will facilitate the use of small packaging and tunable antennas for processing digital terrestrial broadcast frequencies in portable and mobile terminals (One-Seg broadcasting), thereby promoting the integration of antennas with mobile phones equipped with One-Seg broadcasting capabilities. The RKV653KP and RKV653KL developed by Renesas Technology can meet the stringent specifications of embedded varactor diodes for changing antenna resonant frequencies. These two products can be used in tunable antennas for One-Seg broadcasting and other digital broadcasting services, such as Digital Video Broadcasting Handheld (DVB-H) and Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (DMB). The dimensions of the RKV653KP are 0.6mm × 0.3mm × 0.3mm (typical values), making it the smallest tunable antenna varactor diode in the industry. This facilitates easy integration of the antenna into mobile phones.diode,

(2) High Capacitance Change Ratio (RKC653KP and RKC653KL) under Low Voltage Conditions

These new products achieve the industry's highest capacitance change ratio of 2.7 (under C1/C3 conditions) at a low voltage of approximately 3V, facilitating the required wideband capability for low-voltage operation and tunable antennas.diode,
