According to foreign media reports, TDK has developed an ultra-miniature NTC (negative temperature coefficient) thermistor with dimensions of only 0.6mm in length, 0.3mm in width, and 0.2mm in thickness, featuring a narrow tolerance of ±1%.diode

TDK has identified smartphone and tablet manufacturers as the target customers for this NTC thermistor. Currently, to achieve miniaturization and thinness, smartphones and tablets require high-density packaging, while application processors need to operate at high clock speeds. TDK plans to incorporate this NTC thermistor (P6SMBJ5.0-T1) into application processors to adjust and enable high-clock operation without exceeding the product's thermal design limits.

TDK has designed the NTC thermistor in a size suitable for installation beneath the application processor package, and plans to embed the NTC thermistor within the LSI package resin or on the substrate side in the future.

The new product is scheduled to begin sample supply in January 2012 and mass production in April 2011. The sample price is 10 yen per unit.diode

Equipped with electrodes at the bottom, this product enables flip-chip packaging. TDK will exhibit the product at "CEATEC JAPAN 2011" held at the Makuhari Messe International Exhibition Center in Chiba Prefecture on October 4, 2011.
