Understand the reverse recovery current of diodes together
The ideal diodes cuts off when subjected to reverse voltage, without reverse current passing through. When the actual diodes conducts forward, the charge inside the PN junction is accumulated. When the diodes is subjected to reverse voltage, the accumulated charge inside the PN junction will be released and form a reverse recovery current. The time it takes to recover to zero is related to factors such as junction capacitance. The reverse 4-way recovery current will generate strong high-frequency attenuation oscillation under the influence of transformer leakage inductance and other distribution parameters. Therefore, the reverse recovery noise of the output rectifier diode has also become a major interference source in switching power supplies. RC buffers can be connected in parallel at both ends of the diode to suppress its reverse recovery noise The Schottky diodes made of silicon carbide material has minimal recovery current.
