The Role of Ultra Fast Recovery Diodes

The Role of Ultra Fast Recovery Diodes

Ultra Fast Recovery Diodes (FRED) is a semiconductor diode with good switching characteristics and ultra-short reverse recovery time. It is commonly used as a continuous current, absorption, clamping, isolation, output, and input rectifier for the switching devices of high-frequency inverter devices to fully utilize the functions of the switching devices. Ultra fast recovery diodes are essential components for the high-frequency (above 20khz) and solid-state development of electrical equipment.

The Role of Ultra Fast Recovery Diodes

As the switching frequency of the device increases, without FRED as a continuous current, absorption, clamping, isolation, output, and input rectifier for the high-frequency inverter device's switching devices, IGBT, power MOSFET, and other switching devices cannot play their functions and unique roles. This is due to the effect of FRED's turn-off characteristic parameters (reverse recovery time t, reverse recovery charge q, reverse peak current i).

The optimal parameters of FRED are coordinated with high-frequency switching devices to minimize overvoltage spikes, high-frequency interference voltage, and EMI caused by switching device commutation in high-frequency inverter circuits, allowing the functions of switching devices to be fully utilized.
