What are the differences between high-power TVS diode and low-power TVS diode?

 

When selecting diodes, power is a crucial parameter. So, what is the difference between the two? You can distinguish from the following factors.

 

1 Working principle: all based on the principle of Zener diodes; There are differences, as the PN junctions between the two are different. High power TVS diode have large heat sinks, while low power TVS transistors do not;

 

2 Junction capacitance: high-power TVS diode junction capacitance up to hundreds of pF; Low power junction capacitance can reach below 0.3pF;

 

3 Power size: 8/20us waveform for performance testing of low-power TVS diode; A 10/700us waveform is used for testing the performance of high-power TVS diode, with a power of 7-10 times that of low-power TVS transistors;

 

4 Response speed: Small power TVS diode response speed ps level; High power TVS diode generally have speeds of<1ns or 5ns;

 

5 Package size: high-power TVS diode are generally packaged in SMA, SMB, SMC, etc., with larger sizes;

 

Low power TVS diode are mostly packaged in SOD and DFN, with small dimensions;

 

6 Purpose: High power TVS diode are mainly used in power supply feeders; Low power TVS diode are mainly used in high-density installations.
