How to choose a diode?

1. Suitable models should be selected according to different usage scenarios. Ordinary diode are suitable for high-frequency detection, frequency discrimination, amplitude limiting, and small current rectification; Rectifier diode are suitable for low-frequency rectification of different powers; Switching diodes are suitable for electronic computers, pulse control, switching circuits, etc.

2. When selecting a diode, it is required that the reverse peak voltage and forward current borne by the diode should not exceed the rated value. For circuits with inductive components, the reverse rated peak voltage should be selected to be more than twice the working voltage of the circuit to prevent breakdown.

When replacing a diode, the maximum reverse voltage must not be lower than the maximum reverse voltage of the original diode, and the maximum rectification current should not be lower than the maximum rectification value of the original diode.

When replacing a high-frequency diode, its maximum operating frequency should not be lower than the maximum operating frequency of the original diode.

5. The power rectifier diode must be equipped with heat dissipation fins or cooling devices to prevent overheating and burning.

In actual circuits, many diode can be replaced, which depends on the role of the diode in the circuit.

When welding low-power diode, welding should be done quickly, usually within 5 seconds. The power of an electric soldering iron is generally below 35W. The bending of pin leads usually needs to be at least 5mm away from the  shell.

8. Protective measures should be taken for the series and parallel connection of diode in rectifier circuits.
