Difference between volt-ampere characteristics of general diodes and voltage and current characteristics of Schottky diodes.

Difference between volt-ampere characteristics of general diodes and voltage and current characteristics of Schottky diodes.

1. Ordinary diodes produce a voltage drop of about 0.7-1.7 volts when the current flows, but the Schottky diodes only have a voltage drop of 0.15-0.45 volts, so it can improve the efficiency of the system.

2. Schottky diodes use metal-semiconductor interfaces as Schottky barriers to produce rectifying effect, which is different from Pmurn interfaces produced by semiconductor-semiconductor interfaces in ordinary diodes.

3. Because of the characteristic of Schottky barrier, the turn-on voltage drop of Schottky diode is low, and the switching speed can be improved.

4. The time required for the diode to switch from the conduction state of the forward current to the non-conduction state. The reverse recovery time of ordinary diodes is about several hundred nS, while that of high-speed diodes will be less than 100 nS. Schottky diodes have no reverse recovery time, so the switching time of small-signal Schottky diodes is about tens of pS, while the switching time of special large-capacity Schottky diodes is only tens of pS. Because the ordinary diode will cause EMI noise due to the reverse current during the reverse recovery time. Schottky diodes can be switched immediately without the problem of reverse recovery time and reverse current.
