Fast recovery diode failure cause analysis

Fast recovery diode is a semiconductor diode with good switching characteristics and short reverse recovery time, which is mainly used in switching power supplies, PWM pulse width modulators, frequency converters and other electronic circuits, as high-frequency rectifier diodes, freewheeling diodes or damping diodes. Fast recovery diode are manufactured by doping with gold, simple diffusion and other processes, which can obtain higher switching speeds, and also obtain higher withstand voltages. At present, fast recovery diodes are mainly used as rectifier elements in inverter power supplies.

Fast recovery diode failure cause analysis:

First, the use voltage is too high, exceeding the reverse breakdown voltage of the Fast recovery diode, and is broken down.

Second, the current is too large, through the Fast recovery diode current for a long time exceeds its rated current, overheating burning, this is a more common reason.

Third, buy low-frequency diodes for use in high-frequency circuits, causing the diode to overheat and burn.

Fourth, the specifications and models of the Fast recovery diode do not match. When replacing a new diode, the tube that does not meet the requirements is mistakenly replaced or the wiring is wrong, resulting in breakdown damage to the diode tube.

Fifth, the circuit board short circuit, after the circuit board is cleaned with steam, it is not dried, which is caused by the circuit short circuit fault caused by water. After cleaning with steam, blowing it again with compressed air and testing again should avoid this damage.
