Differences between Schottky diodes and transistors
Schottky diode, also called Schottky barrier diode, is a semiconductor device with low power consumption and ultra-high speed. Schottky diode is a metal semiconductor junction formed by the contact between metal and semiconductor. It has the characteristics of large rectification current, fast speed, short reverse recovery time, and reduced forward conduction voltage. It is often used as a Flyback diode in switching power supplies. The most significant feature of Schottky is its extremely short reverse recovery time (which can be as small as a few nanoseconds) and a forward conduction voltage drop of only about 0.4V. At the same current, its forward voltage drop is much smaller.
In the industry, there is no real Schottky transistor. The so-called Schottky transistor is actually a combination of Schottky diodes and an ordinary transistor, which can improve some of the performance of the transistor. Schottky transistor can effectively limit the saturation depth of the transistor and greatly shorten the switching time. When the transistor is not saturated, Jc reverse bias and SBD cutoff have no impact on the circuit; When the transistor enters saturation, Jc is biased forward and SBD is turned on, causing the positive bias voltage of the collector to be clamped at 0.4V, limiting the saturation depth of the and reducing the base current of transistorhe transistor.
