Three quadrant bidirectional thyristor is an optimized product of four quadrant thyristor. It shields the fourth quadrant and can achieve more powerful voltage changes (dv/dt), current changes (di/dt), and steering ability. High speed voltage changes provide better immunity, as well as better control ability in the most sensitive triggering state. Therefore, the protection circuit, buffering current, and inductance can be saved, making the circuit simpler, the overall cost lower, and the ability to prevent false triggering stronger.
