Three Characteristics of TVS Diode Applications
What are the characteristics of diodes in applications, and the different characteristics of TVS Diode also have different roles in circuit applications.
1、 Applying TVS Diode to signal and power lines can prevent chips or important sensitive devices from malfunctioning due to transient pulses, such as electrostatic discharge effects, AC power surges, or switching power supply noise.
2、 The electrostatic discharge effect can release pulses exceeding 10000V/60A and can last for 10ms, while general TTL devices may be damaged when encountering 10V pulses exceeding 30ms. TVS Diode applications can effectively absorb pulses that can cause device damage and eliminate interference caused by switches between buses.
3、 Applying TVS Diode between signal lines and ground can avoid unnecessary noise effects on data and control buses. In the application of TVS tubes, attention should be paid to the relationship between the absorbed power (peak) of transient voltage and the pulse width of transient voltage. The specifications only provide the absorbed power (peak) at a specific pulse width, while the pulse width in actual circuits is unpredictable and requires estimation before application. The use of wide pulses should be derated. For the protection of small current loads, a current limiting resistor can be consciously added to the line. As long as the resistance value of the current limiting resistor is appropriate, it will not affect the normal operation of the line, but the current generated by the interference caused by the current limiting resistor will be greatly
