PSoCDesigner is a software tool designed to assist in PSoC application development, featuring dedicated user modules and wizards for configuring internal registers tailored to capacitive sensing designs. This powerful combination equips engineers with the tools needed to implement simple capacitive digital switches (and even more complex capacitive linear sliders). Beyond internal register configuration, PSoCDesigner also includes essential software routines for detecting finger touch on digital switches or determining the precise position of a finger on a linear slider. Such intelligence is indispensable for achieving fully functional capacitive sensing applications. The software algorithm offers two intelligent features. The first converts measured circuit counts into finger detection results, a function required for both digital switches and linear sliders. The second calculates finger position on a linear slider using the capacitive weighted average of a multi-sensor array. A dual-cell slider inherently has a minimum least significant bit (LSB). If a finger is positioned over the slider, it can be over cell 1 and/or cell 0. However, from a resolution perspective, finger positions often exceed the physical spacing between capacitive sensors, so this feature also incorporates an interpolation algorithm. The interpolation process reduces the LSB from 1 cell to 1/2 cell, 1/4 cell, or 1/16 cell. Interpolation is key to achieving smooth capacitive linear sliders.
