The difference between Schottky diodes and fast recovery diodes

The difference between Schottky diodes and fast recovery diodes.

What's the difference between a Schottky diode and a fast recovery diode?

1. FRD (diode with short reverse recovery time) is also a kind of high-speed switching diode. This kind of diode has good switching characteristics, short reverse recovery time, low forward voltage and high reverse breakdown voltage (high withstand voltage). It is mainly used in switching power supply, pulse width modulation circuit PWM and frequency conversion and other electronic circuits.

Second, Schottky diodes are diodes based on the potential barrier formed by the contact between metals and semiconductors, referred to as Schottky diodes. Schottky diodes are low-power, ultra-high-speed semiconductor devices. The reverse recovery time of Schottky diodes can be as small as a few nanoseconds (2-10ns nanoseconds), and the forward voltage drop is only about 0.4v (0.4Mel 1.0V), while the rectifier current is up to thousands of amperes. And the reverse leakage current is large, the voltage resistance is low, generally lower than 150V, which is mostly used in low voltage situations.

Third, the recovery time of the Schottky diode is about 100 times smaller than that of the fast recovery diode, and the reverse recovery time of the Schottky diode is about a few nanoseconds! The former has the advantages of low power consumption and ultra-high speed! Of course, the electrical characteristics are diodes. Fast recovery diodes in the manufacturing process of gold doping, simple diffusion and other processes, can obtain higher switching speed, but also can get higher withstand voltage. At present, fast recovery diodes are mainly used as rectifier components in inverter power supply.
