Fault characteristics of voltage regulator diodes

Zener diode, also known as Zener diode in English. A diode used to stabilize voltage by utilizing the phenomenon of PN junction reverse breakdown state, where the current can change over a large range while the voltage remains basically unchanged. This diode is a semiconductor device that has a high resistance until the critical reverse breakdown voltage. At this critical breakdown point, the reverse resistance decreases to a small value, and in this low resistance region, the current increases while the voltage remains constant. The voltage regulator diode is classified based on the breakdown voltage, and because of this characteristic, the voltage regulator is mainly used as a voltage regulator or voltage reference component. Zener diode can be connected in series for use at higher voltages, and higher stable voltages can be obtained by connecting them in series.

The main faults of the voltage regulator diode are open circuit, short circuit, and unstable voltage regulator value. Among these three types of faults, the former shows an increase in power supply voltage; The latter two types of faults manifest as a decrease in power supply voltage to zero volts or unstable output.
