The following points should be noted in the application of Schottky diodes

1. The actual operating current of the circuit should be less than the forward additional current If of the Schottky diode, and generally no more than 60% of the additional If.

2. The peak operating voltage of the operating circuit should be less than the maximum reverse breakdown voltage Vrrm of the Schottky diode, and generally no more than 80% of the additional voltage Vrrm.

3. The actual operating temperature rise of the Schottky diode in the circuit should be less than the maximum junction temperature Tjmax of the Schottky diode.

4. Regarding harsh environments, in order to ensure reliability, Schottky diodes should be derated, especially considering the selection of forward additional current.

5. For application circuits with large surge voltage or surge current ratio, a control and absorption circuit should be added.

6. Try to replace the Schottky diode with the original type, because different types of Schottky forward voltage drop Vf, reverse breakdown voltage Vr, and reverse leakage current Ir are different. For example, replace the SR540 with the SR5100. Although the reverse breakdown voltage of the SR5100 is higher than that of the SR540, it seems that the replacement is no problem. However, the forward voltage drop of the SR5100 is higher than that of the SR540. If it is used in the set-top box power supply circuit, the +5V and +12V voltages will deviate from the normal values too much, and other power consumption will increase than originally.
