Conventional methods for selecting rectifier components

 

How to select rectifier diode  in electronic circuits and what are the common selection techniques?

 

1. When selecting rectifierdevices, first calculate the current and voltage parameter requirements. However, in practical applications, considering various factors such as power grid fluctuations, calculation errors, product usage location, shell materials, heat dissipation materials, and space, for safety reasons, rectifier devices with calculation parameters of around 1.2-2-3 times are usually selected for model selection.

 

2. Considering the power consumption issue of the rectifier device itself, selecting a rectifier device with lower VF and IR at the same current and voltage can reduce device power consumption and improve efficiency.

 

3. In addition, excessive Trr can also cause excessive recovery time, resulting in superimposed power consumption and latency. At the same time, the reverse recovery time directly affects the maximum operating frequency of the rectifier device. Therefore, high-frequency rectifier devices have strict requirements for Trr, leading to the development of fast recovery rectifier diode , Schottky and other devices with smaller Trr.

 

4. Therefore, there are more low-frequency  rectifier devices at the input end (front-end), and the requirements for diode  Trr are relatively low. The output end (back-end) has higher requirements for Trr, and often uses fast recovery diode or Schottky rectifier diode , and even MOS products as rectifier devices.
