Which chip process is good for producing diodes GPP or OJ?

The quality of diodes depends on the chip process. Currently, there are two main diode chip processes used in the industry: glass passivation (GPP) and acid pickling (OJ).

The GPP process structure of the diode, with its chip P-N junction protected by passivated glass. Glass is made by sintering and melting the glass powder at around 800 degrees Celsius, and then cooling it to form a glass layer. This glass layer and chip are fused together and cannot be separated mechanically.

And the OJ process structure of the diode, its chip P-N junction, is protected by coating. Apply adhesive to protect the junction, and then cure at a temperature of around 200 degrees Celsius to protect the P-N junction and obtain voltage. The protective adhesive of OJ only covers the surface of the P-N junction.

Due to the different structures of glass passivation (GPP) and acid cleaning (OJ) chip processes, when external forces are generated, cold and hot shocks will occur. The diode of OJ process structure will leak due to the mismatch between the protective adhesive and the silicon chip, resulting in a certain rate of device failure. The TVS diodes with GPP process structure has high reliability and still performs well at 150 ° C HTRB; The OJ process products can only withstand HTRB at around 100 degrees.
