Thyristor, abbreviated as Thyristor rectifier element, is a high-power semiconductor device with a four layer structure of three PN junctions, generally composed of two Thyristor connected in reverse. Its function is not only to rectify, but also to quickly make or break contactless switches; Realize the inversion of converting direct current into alternating current; Transforming alternating current of one frequency into alternating current of another frequency, and so on. Thyristor, like other semiconductor devices, have the advantages of small size, high efficiency, good stability, and reliable operation. Its emergence has led semiconductor technology from the weak current field to the strong current field, becoming a component that is eagerly adopted in industries, agriculture, transportation, military research, as well as commercial and civil electrical appliances. At present, thyristor is widely used in automatic control, electromechanical applications, industrial electrical, and home appliances.

 

There are three main types of controllable silicon in terms of appearance: spiral type, flat type, and flat bottom type. Spiral type applications are common.
