What is the difference between fast recovery diodes and Schottky diodes?

fast recovery diodes is a diode with good switching characteristics and short reverse recovery time. It has the same single conductivity as ordinary diodes. It is mainly used in electronic circuits such as switching power supply, pulse width modulator, frequency converter, etc., and is mainly used as high-frequency rectifier diode, Flyback diode or damping diode.

Schottky diode is not made by using the PN junction principle. It is a semiconductor device made of metal as the positive pole, N-type semiconductor as the negative pole, and the potential barrier formed on the contact surface of the two has rectification characteristics. It is a hot carrier diode. Schottky diode is mainly used as rectifier diode, Flyback diode, protection diode, etc. in the circuit, and is mainly used in low voltage and high current circuits, Such as switching power supply, frequency converter, inverter, Microwave transmission.

The difference between fast recovery diodes and Schottky diodes

1. The reverse recovery time of the fast recovery diode is several hundred nanoseconds, while the Schottky diode is faster, even a few nanoseconds;

2. The reverse breakdown voltage of fast recovery diodes is high, generally higher than 200V, or even several thousand volts, while the reverse breakdown voltage of Schottky diodes is very low, generally below 100, and some may be slightly higher;

3. fast recovery diodes have high power consumption, while Schottky diodes have short reverse recovery time, low losses, and low noise.
